How does laser hair removal work?

During laser hair removal treatments, a laser beam is focused at the base of the target structure (in this case the hair follicle) before the energy is delivered to the root. Suitable for use on body hair or facial hair, laser hair reduction is a safe, effective, and clinically proven method that works for all skin types.

What makes MySkyn Clinic a leading laser clinic?

We are proud to be the UK’s first clinic to have used the innovative laser hair removal technology known as Quanta Thunder MT, which is designed to offer the ultimate speed and client comfort. It uses mixed wavelengths of Alexandrite & Nd:YAG, which are known to be the gold standard technologies for laser hair reduction.

How Long Does Laser Hair Removal Last

Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Hair Removal

Laser treatment times can vary depending on the area being treated. Small areas like the upper lip may take just 10-15 minutes, while larger areas such as the legs or back could take up to an hour. Your practitioner will give you a more accurate estimate during your consultation.

Laser treatments are generally very safe when performed by trained professionals. Modern laser technology is designed with built-in safety features, and side effects are rare and usually temporary, such as mild redness or swelling.

Most people describe laser hair removal as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. It feels like a quick snap of a rubber band against the skin. Newer laser systems also have cooling mechanisms to minimize discomfort during the procedure.

Recovery after laser treatments is typically very quick. You may experience slight redness or sensitivity for a few hours to a couple of days, depending on your skin type and the treatment area. Most people return to normal activities immediately after their session.

Results can last for months or even years, depending on the type of treatment and how your body responds. For hair removal, many people experience permanent hair reduction, but occasional maintenance sessions may be needed.

In most cases, a topical anaesthetic is not necessary. However, if you are particularly sensitive or having a larger area treated, your practitioner may recommend using a numbing cream to enhance your comfort.
