Professor Sharif Kaf Al-Ghazal is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgeon with more than 22 years of experience at consultant level. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine postgraduate degree (MD) degree from the University of Nottingham in 2000 and has established an outstanding academic and clinical reputation throughout his career.
From 2012 to 2024, he served as Head of the Plastic Surgery Department at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, providing strategic leadership and contributing significantly to the development of the service. He plays an important role in the management of skin cancer patients at Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital, working closely with dermatology colleagues to deliver comprehensive, multidisciplinary care and achieve the highest standards of patient outcomes.
Alongside his clinical practice, Professor Al-Ghazal maintains an active commitment to medical education and research. He teaches the Skin Cancer Management module at the University of Bradford’s School of Health Studies and contributes to research initiatives within the School of Life Sciences, helping to advance innovation and excellence in plastic surgery and skin cancer treatment.
In addition, he is involved in the clinical teaching of medical students from the University of Leeds, providing training and mentorship in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Professor Al-Ghazal is a dedicated member of several leading professional organisations, including the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), and other specialist associations related to plastic surgery and skin cancer management.
Through his professional engagement and collaborative work, he remains at the forefront of developments in his specialty, contributing to the advancement of surgical practice, research, and patient care. He has authored and co-authored more than 55 research papers and articles published in leading national and international peer-reviewed journals.
Professor Sharif Kaf Al-Ghazal is a co-founder and former President of the British Islamic Medical Association (BIMA). He also serves as Chief Editor of the Journal of the British Islamic Medical Association (JBIMA), overseeing the publication of high-quality medical research, scholarly discussions, and professional commentary.
His academic interests extend beyond surgery to include the history of medicine, medical ethics, and healthcare law. He has written extensively on these subjects and holds a Master’s degree (MA) in Medical Law and Ethics, reflecting his longstanding commitment to the ethical and historical dimensions of medical practice.
