If you have ever been on holiday to a sun-drenched destination, then you will almost certainly be aware of how vital SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is when choosing a cream to protect your skin. But did you know there are two separate factors at play that you need to consider when choosing the best protection for your skin type?
So here comes the science bit, the Sun emits ultraviolet radiation which travels as light to our planet. This light arrives in two distinctive forms UVA & UVB the difference between the two is the length of the light waves.
Well, it turns out that UVA is responsible for premature ageing because It reaches the deeper layers affecting the elastin in our skin. This can lead to wrinkles, and sun-induced skin ageing with these effects become even more pronounced as we get older. Additionally UVB rays are responsible for reddening and tanning our skin, but they can also trigger pigmentation, e.g. freckles and existing conditions like melasma.
So how can you protect yourself? We recommend wearing an SPF daily product of factor 30 and above to help diminish the chances of skin damage from these harmful and invisible rays. We recommend that everyone incorporates an SPF into their daily skin-care routine, even when it’s the height of winter!
